It has been a while since my last post, so I wanted to share how we celebrate the new year in Hawai’i. Being local Japanese, we have our own modified traditional customs that we celebrate each new year!

Saturday, we decided to head up the mountain to again but this time, south and into Volcanoes National Park. This is the area where Kilauea is still erupting and Halema’uma’u crater is still smoking…
Just got back from a weekend trip to Hilo to see the Observatory and Volcanoes! It was actually my first time up to Hilo since I was in 5th grade, so I was very happy to go and see it again! I didn’t remember a lot from what I saw last time, so to refresh my brain was a treat.
