‘Morning …
It’s a cool, clear Christmas Eve morning here in Manoa Valley and there’s a quiet stillness outside. Perfect Christmas weather … my favorite! I’ve been kinda out of commission the last couple of days … caught some kind of virus which laid me up with body ache and fever – yuck! Still had to perform the last two days though, so I ended up downing a couple of Tylenol and gutted it out … as that old saying goes, “The show must go on!” The good news is that I’m feeling lots better and we’re all pau performing for a while … well, at least until New Year’s Eve. This has been such a busy non-stop year for us that even a few days off is a blessing!
Our “Boys And Their Toys” toy drive last Friday night at Gordon Biersch was a huge success! The weather was beautiful, the place was packed, and the cartons were overflowing with toys and donations! I had heard earlier in the day that the Toys For Tots campaign was something like 600 toys short for the year … well, I’m sure we narrowed that deficit a LOT that night! And we couldn’t have done it without the help of so many … especially our prize sponsors Hawaiian Airlines, Oakley, KoAloha, Kani Ka Pila Grille, JTB, Lulu’s, JALPAK, Sawayaka, JAL, Robert’s of Hawai’i, and the many others who so generously donated prizes for our raffle drawings. And to everyone who donated all those toys and services … thank you very, very much! Finally, this event would not have been possible without the hard work of Nick, Alex, and all their friends who really worked their tails off to make it a success. This project was originally started by the boys … I had nothing to do with it .. and it makes me damn proud to see all these young people stepping up and trying to make a difference in our community! Well done, guys!!
Oh, and don’t forget to catch MDNA on KINE FM105 today from 4 -6 pm. We’ll be guest DJs and it should be a riot!!
Aloha, “D”
