Aloha kakahiaka, everyone! Hope you all are enjoying this long 4th of July weekend (well, at least for us here in the US), and it finally looks like the summer weather is kicking in. It’s starting to get hot around here and because of the recent rains, it’s also pretty humid – ughhh! Anyway, I just got finished playing squash and am now nursing a severely bruised thigh after I jammed it with the butt of my racket while trying to make a shot along the wall. I love squash and it’s a great way to stay in shape, but it can really punish the body … especially for us older guys! But I ain’t ready to quit yet …
Lulu’s was fun last night even though we’re still trying to get the right sound out of our new Mackie mixer. No worries, though, because our bass player, Mark, is an audio “miracle worker” and he’ll have that sucker dialed in in no time! There were a lot of familiar faces in the audience last night … I saw several people from California and Arizona who visit Hawai’i every summer and who are big fans of ours, along with many of our friends from Japan. A lot of them are coming to see us perform this Wednesday, July 6th, when we kick off the Wildest Show concert series over at the Honolulu Zoo. This annual summer event was created by our good friend and former manager, Roy Sakuma, and features some of the top local entertainers. There are performances every Wednesday from 6 to 7pm so bring the family, coolers, beach chairs, towels, goza mats … whatever, and enjoy an evening of music under the stars!
Tonight we’re at the Kani Ka Pila Grille over in the Outrigger Reef Hotel so it’ll be another busy evening for us! Once again, if you’re looking for a place to go and listen to some great island music under the stars, KKPG is the place to be … especially on Saturday nights when MDNA is there! Yeehaaaaa!!
Aloha, “D”
