Lost a dear friend on Thursday … Clement “Skip” Akina passed away at the age of 62 after a courageous battle with cancer.  Skip was an outstanding athlete at Punahou and UH and later became a coach and mentor to many of Hawai’i’s young athletes, including my son Alex. I’ll always remember our squash games and our lunches … the jokes, the laughter, the great camaraderie. Rest in peace, my friend … we’re gonna miss you dearly.
Shortly after I received word of Skip’s passing, I was driving home to get ready for Lulu’s and there in the valley was a beautiful rainbow! I hadn’t seen a rainbow in Manoa for quite a while and all of a sudden there it was! It was almost as if the kupuna were trying to lift my spirits and tell me that my friend was now in a good place. Definitely a chicken skin moment …
I’m so bummed right now .. don’t really feel like writing any more so I’m gonna go walk the puppies with Carla. Maybe I’ll be inspired after I come back ..
Aloha, “D”
How beautiful rainbow… maybe this is present from your friend… really so beautiful!
